Since our inception in Bangladesh over 50 years ago, we have learned that people living in poverty can be agents of positive change in their own lives. BRAC expanded to Uganda in 2006, and with its operations covering 124 districts, the country has quickly become home to our largest operation outside of Bangladesh.

Youth Empowerment
Youth Empowerment
We create opportunities that support positive outcomes for young people to achieve social and economic empowerment through exercising their agency. Our adolescent clubs are safe spaces targeting girls who have dropped out of school, and are at the risk of early marriage or pregnancy. They access life skills, financial literacy, vocational and entrepreneurial training, including in-kind startup capital, and are supported with linkages to work opportunities.![](/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/uganda-The-Empowerment-and-Livelihood-for-Adolescents.webp)
Education
Education
Our education programme takes a community-based, participatory approach to learning. Schools are supported by a cradle-to-career network spanning early childhood to tertiary education, including access to libraries, adolescent clubs, and adult learning. We prioritise joyful learning, and engage participatory, alternative and innovative approaches for socio-emotional learning, play and character development.![ELA Club in Africa](/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/demo2-uganda-programs.webp)
Health
Health
We complement government efforts to implement essential maternal and child healthcare services through over 4,500 volunteers known as community health promoters. Our health promoters are all women, recruited from local communities, and pay door-to-door visits to the last mile. We make health systems stronger and deliver care in the most vulnerable communities while actively supporting the health ministries in the locations we operate.![ELA Club in Africa](/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Uganda-Health.webp)

Early Childhood Development
Our flagship model for early childhood education, Play Labs are quality, low-cost, safe spaces, providing a conducive playful learning environment. We also ensure that our play-based learning curriculum is culturally relevant and the activities help children develop physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively, while also providing children who have experienced trauma a space to heal.![ELA Club in Africa](/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Early-Childhood-Developmet.webp)
